I have a 1992 Evinrude 40. Was going to change lube in lower gearcase, mistakenly removed shift cradle screw instead of drain/fill plug. I immediately put the shift screw back in, as soon as I realized my mistake. Can anyone tell me if I've done any damage by removing the wrong thing?
<br /><br />Does the engine shift okay? If the shifter wasn't moved while the screw was out you may have gotten lucky.<br /><br />If not, you need to get a manual and pull the lower end to put it back right.<br /><br />Good luck.
