How often do you change your plugs? I have a 91 225 Johnson. Why not just clean them in reuse the plugs.

Re: How often do you change your plugs?

On my old 'rude 50 I would change them every year. With my new merc last year which only ran for 6 weeks I cleaned and left them in for this year.

I haven't decided this for sure but I think I'm going to keep these plugs for fogging and first spring startup and then change them after spring startup. Then keep the new ones for two seasons and swap them for foggin plugs the following year.

Any comments or just buy new plugs every spring?

I always clean (sand blast) and regap my plugs annually until the electrode shows erosion, then I change them.

I just changed mine & got a slight (1 mph)increase in speed (per my GPS). Old plugs had maybe 20-25 hours on them.

If you go to higher lakes, i.e.-4000ft. or higher you should change them twice a year. Reason is, less air more gas higher foul rate.

Plugs are cheap in the overall scheme of things. I change them every year and keep the old set as spares in the boat.

I've ran my lightwin 4hp on the same plugs for over 6 years. Just make sure there clean and the gap is right. As others have said keep an extra set handy, or if you feel the need they really don't cost that much so change them when you feel the need. I think the most important thing is to keep another set ready if needed.
