I have an 85 (ish) 35hp evinrude. I am wondering what was meant when someone suggested a shift adjustment. The motor starts on the first click of the key and purrs. When I bring it up past 25% power it intermittantly clunks like it pops outta gear for a split second. It doesn't sound nice. Some say clutch dog, it is not the control cable, I unhooked it from the shifter and same prob. What and where, if any, is this adjustment? Or was the person talking about the adjustment on the control cable (that isn, the problem.
Thanks in advance...awesome site.
Bill

Yep, thats the clutch dog and gear! My machinist said he would not weld them up, it wont hold up and causes more damage. Some have had luck with rotating the dog and gears as most of the time you wont use much throtle in reverse. I found a gear set another member had and all is good!
