I cant keep the thing running. The motor has about 15 hrs on it. it has been sitting all winter with a full tank. Should I drain it and replace the gas and filter. When it does start it runs for a minute or so and then dies. it sounds horrible..

Can you elaborate on the "sounds horrible"? If you're referring to gear noise, that's normal for these jet drives. Are you hearing clunks? Also, will it stay running if you give it a little bit of gas and warm it up? If you have the 115 on it, they are a bit cranky when they're cold, but smooth out somewhat when they warm up.

Let us know more.

Kent

It sounds kinda like a rock grinder, like clunks . I tried i little more gas but it doesnt want to run for more than a minute.

Go ahead and take the impeller assembly off the back of the drive. You need to disconnect the flow gate cable and steering cable. Then snap the steel latches outward. The whole assembly should then just slide off the back of the driveshaft.

Start the engine again, and see if it runs any better.

Also, when it quits, does it fire right back up again, or does the engine turn over for awhile before you get it to catch?

I removed the impeller assembly. It still wont run for more than a few seconds. It fires almost every time..
When it quits running it takes a minute for it to fire back up...
The clunking is intermediate, "clunkity, clunk clunk" ( not very often )

Check the compression on the cylinders. Also, you'll want to check that its firing on all four cylinders - pull a cap off while its running and see if it bogs down further, that plug has spark.

How long has it been since the carbs have been rebuilt?

I got it running and it runs great, just had to choke the crap out of it.
I am concerned about the clunkity, clunk, clunk
The carb has never been rebuilt. The motor got maybe 10 hrs of total run time on it.
Thanks for your help...
