Evinrude 4hp leaking from lower unit!

Hi, I'm having a little trouble with my outboard it seems. It was runnning great for hours never had any problems with it. I noticed when I got home that near a air hole or whatever it is, by the prop it had black, i'm guessing lower unit oil runnning out of it. It never stopped running smooth the whole day, but I plan on going out again thats why i'm concerned. Now i'm running this motor cause my 35 hp is out and the boat is 13 feet fiberglass tri-hull. Could the impeller possibly be going out or is it something i can just fix by taking the casing off and cleaning it up. The serial is B1627522 model no E4RCCS I think it's a 85 but i'm not sure. Any help would be great, Thanks!

It is a 1888 Model. Are you sure it's lower unit fluid? Drain the lower unit fluid and have a look at it. If it's milky, it has water getting in there. If it's black, it's OK. Swipe some of the black stuff running out of the motor(Not the lower unit fluid) and take a wiff of it. It may just be unburned fuel/oil form the motor. If it smells like gas/oil, I would not worry about it..

Yeah it's thick and black. Smells like fuel.It coming out of a little hole that above the prop, like a air hole or something. How do you drain it and replinish it? what kind of oil do i get. Also I keep wipping it and 20 min later more is coming out.. Thanks man

Are you running a 50:1 fuel/oil mix? Sounds like you are just getting alot of unburned oil coming down the inside of the leg. Does the motor smoke alot and do you do alot of trolling or low speed running? There is no re-filling it. It's just unburned oil coming out of the water drain hole. It's not uncommon. You might want to try a decarb and see if that helps. Here is a link to it..<br /><br /> Decarb

I was using a 1 gal tank and i put about 2.5 oz of quicksilver in it. when we started the motor at the dock there was soo much smoke everyone was looking at us lol and then i just open the air valve on the tank it didn't smoke and never died out for the rest of the trip. Also, I never opened it up full power cause it's on a 14 foot boat i was scared i would stress it out and the whole thing would blow up. Should I run it full power?
