I've got the engine running (thanks again guys!) but it's running poorly.

Stalls frequently, LOTS of white smoke, responds slowly to changes in the idle lever.

I'm 99.9% free of all knowledge of engines. Can you help me with some advice on how to go about "cleaning out" the engine?

I know I'm going to have to let it run quite a bit, but on top of this, are there things I should be doing and/or cleaning and or changing and/or lubing that will help the engine run better?

Oh, FYI, the boat is not in the water. I'm working on it with the hose/earmuff thingee.

Thanks in advance guys.

ppjmb5
Member # 44349 posted July 09, 2004 09:42 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
get a carb kit and rebuild the carbs then i think you will be fine if you dont want to do that get some seafoam and put that in your gas works wonders

Walker
Member # 11282 posted July 09, 2004 09:43 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I suspect the carburators are fouled. You can run the ebgine til 2008 and they won't clear out. You need to tear them dowm, soak them in good carb cleaner, blow them out with compressed air, install new carb kits and put them back on the motor. Get fresh fuel, new impellor and then try to fire her up.

have tools will travel
Member # 45286 posted July 09, 2004 09:48 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
make sure you blow out ALL the orifices in the carb. I am rebuilding a motor because when I put it back on line after 3 years storage I missed a plugged high speed orifice!
