Newbie here so send me to the whipping barn and the archives if this has been covered. This rig is fairly new to me. The engine model is a 135863D The boat is a 17 foot glass Yar Craft with a 19" prop and tops out at about 34mph. I do not have a tach. This engine had sat for a good year with crap fuel in it.

The engine was running poorly if at all until I cleaned the carbs. I took them apart and cleaned them with aerosol carb cleaner and compressed air. I used the old gaskets (didn't have replacments).

The only problem I could find was the float needle was sticking closed in the lower pair.

On first run it started ok and seemed to run ok to full throttle. After that it will not come off idle without killing. I seems to shake a bit and miss for a good 5 minutes at low speed then eventually clears up and will run at all speeds until I again idle down.

Things I have checked so far:
The choke is not sticking, the plugs are new champ 77s, the fuel bulb stays full and firm, I don't smell any extra fuel or see any excessive exhaust. The compression is 100 psi on the right side pair and 110 on the left side pair. The spark plugs look ok, maybe a bit oily, but I checked them at home after idling and not on the water. A can of engine tuner may be in order.

Also should I see more than a bit of water spit and steam from the two tell tale holes? If this is an issue I will drop the lower and check the impeller, if not I will next look for spark issues or dig further into the carbs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
