Clipper switch for 1972 Johnson

I have a 1972 100hp Johnson 100esl72 that the marina says that it has a faulty clipper switch. I got an email today that said Johnson sent out a service bulletin that the switch could be removed. Is this true and what are my options for repairing the engine?

is this a clipper for the voltage regulator or the clipper for the shift system?<br /> good luck and keep posting

This is for the voltage regulation and is part #580891. The motor will idle fine but when you accelerate the engine cuts out.
