1972 65Hsp. Evinrude. Want to take electric starter off of engine as bendix seems to keep running after it disengages. See the two bolts on the side that have to be removed. What else is there as it won't come off after they're removed.

Thanks,
Skip

Re: Evinrude Starter

Skip..... That has nothing to do with the starter itself. The problem is due to a sticking starter solenoid.

Problems of that type, causing a solenoid to stick, is due to engaging the starter circuit with a weak battery.

The cure... Use top notch battery and replace the solenoid.

Removed Celenoid from engine to check it out{it's new}. In doing so noted that the two wires going to the small bolts on the side of the celenoid were badly frayed. These seem to come from a block right in front or the celenoid, that looks like it can come apart. How does the block come apart, and do you go buy the whole set-up of wires that comes out of the seperated part, or attempt to repair the two frayed pieces individually.

Thanks,
Skip
