1959 Johnson Super Seahorse 50hp. Finally got started today. Ran ok last year, slow hole shot, decent once on plane. Boat used to have a very good hole shot.

Compression #1 80, #2 85, #3 80 #4 85.

Should I decarb with seafoam as outlined in the FAQ or should I rebuild/clean with a carb kit?? Id rather take the easy way first.

What else could improve the hole shot??

Thanks!!

Daron

Well, if your carbs are gummed up, causing your poor hole shot, then no amount of decarb is gonna fix that. On the other hand, if you have a severe carbon problem, then no amount of carb work is gonna get you out of the hole quicker. Clear as mud?

Do a dcarb first and if that increases you compression the rebuild carbs. If that doesn't help your hole shot then you decide to rebuild you are already one step in the right direction.
