Can't get forward gear

I have a 1992 Johnson 15 HP outboard motor Model No J15RENM. Yesterday I replaced the throttle grip and the plastic shims inside the grips. I have everything lined up properly when I put it back together(I thought) but I cannot get forward gear. I have reverse but that's it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

does the motor go in to forward ? or just not going into the gear in the lower end

try rotating the prop as you shift into forward

tks jimmbo for your advice about rotating the prop. Just what the doctor ordered. Works just fine now.
