Serial Number

I have read a lot of people asking for the year of their motor quoting thte serial number. Where is this usually found? The paperwork with mine has a parts list for a 65 COMM R, copyright 1994. I need to send away for a manual, but 1994 / 1995 seems to be a dividing line between manual types. Motor has been maintained by a local mechanic who obviously knew next to nothing, fuel leaks everywhere, extra wires sprouting everywhere, looks like a tear down is in order soon, but I'll enjoy the boat first for a bit, if only to justify purchase to the wife (chuckle).<br /><br />Thanks guys

Re: Serial Number

The engine may be a 1965 commercial and the parts list you have was copyrighted in 1994. A lot of those old manuals and parts lists are re-prints. That might be what you have. If that's not the answer, post back with the engine model nr. and someone will tell you the manufactured date and where to get a manual and parts list.<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty

Re: Serial Number

That actually was my question- Where do I find the Serial Number? Looked over the block but can't seem to see any. Lots of tags on carberators and such, but nothing like the other people are quoting. Engine is a 65 HP Evinrude, red white and blue cowl, blue lower end. Parts list says "65 COMM Rope Models, 65RSLC 65RSYC Model numbers preceded by E, J, C, S". Service Manual is listed in parts as "503149" and Operator's Manual as "212582". Cowl says "2006 EPA Standard Evinrude" on side and 65 on rear.

Re: Serial Number

There's usually a small metal tag on the port side of the transom clamp with the model and serial number stamped on it. If not there, it may be stamped on a Welch plug on top of the engine block. The Welch plug is about the size of a quarter and looks like a freeze plug.<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty
