Engine Hot

My 69 Johnson 9.5 HP is running hot. Water comes out of hole in lower unit when running but not from top. Thought it was suppose to! Water pump recently replaced but to no avail curing overheating problem. Troubleshooting steps?

Check to see if the water tube was reconnected when the lower unit was put back on.

Obviously this must require removing lower unit. This appears to be done by removing four bolts and what else (shift lever linkage)?

Yep....soon as you remove the four bolts holding the lower unit to the midsection and drop it a couple inches, you will see the shift rod link. Remove one of the screws and the lower unit will slip off. It helps to put the gear case in forward gear.

OBJ.....what should the tube be connected to once this lower unit is dropped?
