Hello again

I polished my boat with a ligiud polish and it came out nice. Then I waxed the boat by hand with a carnuba paste and it seems to be very smeary(if thats a word). They gave you a pad to apply with ,which I did- let it dry and then wiped clean with a terry cloth. Still see the marks. did I use to much wax ?? and if so how to correct -- Maybe a orbital buffer-- What pad for the final look??

Thanks
Cool It- Russell

Re: Polish/Wax

I think you used too much. The hand paste isn't going to stick well if you just put liquid polish on it.

Re: Polish/Wax

FYI from Don Casey

The idea behind wax is to prolong the shine, not to restore it. Don't wait until your boat starts looking dull to wax it. If you keep gelcoat protected with a once or twice a year coat of wax, that new-boat shine will last nearly forever. Use paste wax. Liquid waxes are easier to apply and actually have higher gloss initially, but they do not have the staying power of a good paste.

In a consumer magazine comparison, of the waxes tested the longest lasting were Collinite #885, Meguiar's Professional Paste Wax, 3M Ultra Performance, and West Marine Carnauba. To make this job easier, invest in an electric buffer.
Now, I use Mequiars and 3Ms and use a Porter Cable DA Polisher that I bought off Amazon. It is the same one sold by Meguiar's so you can buy all sorts of specialty pads from them and from Porter Cable. If you visit Mequiars site you'll get all sorts of info on what products and what pads to use when. I follow their process on my vehicles and boat and have had great success.

CI,I will bet you applied it in the sun or to a warm surface. To correct, wax it again and remove the wax immediately. You can apply with one hand and remove with the other.Wax on--Wax off Danielson :) Charlie

for what its worth the Florida FWC specificly says on there web site not to put your boat in the water with any wax on it i know you live in NY but if you think about chemicals in the wax could be bad for marine life

But that exhuast sure is good! (j/k)

If the wax has chemicals that shouldn't be in the water (which is most likely true to some degree), then you shouldn't drive your waxed car in the rain either for the same reasons.

Re: Polish/Wax

I've never heard of wax leaching into the water. I suppose fishing is also bad for marine life? Gimme a break!
