Horn sounds constantly

I have a 1989 40HP Evinrude outboard. As soon as I put key in ignition I get a stady tone. I know it can't be overheating as the engine is not running. Further, when I run the engine the tone does not shut off. I pump the bulb to get it hard but it does not maintain it's firmness yet the engine runs well. The engine is run only in fresh water. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Horn sounds constantly

Welcome to iboats and replace the hot horn. It'll sound a steady tone if it fails. Only other possibilities include a short in the overheat circuitry on the motor, or a short in the overheat sensor.

OOPS! One more possibility...You could have a sender wire shorted to ground in the remote control (easy to pinch those SOBs).

Re: Horn sounds constantly

disconnect the low oil warning brown wire usually beside starter. there is a microprocesser in the oil tank which may be causing the problem
