The lower carb is leaking gas while being primed. I have taken it apart three times cleaned it put new float, seat, and pin in. It will work when I fisrt put it back together but when I get to the lake the priimer bulb will not get hard and it starts leaking gas again. I have put the old float back in with no success. As well as all new parts. Any suggestions as to what might be causing the problems.

smarder,

Is it leaking out the throat or the fuel inlet.

If the fuel inlet is leaking, and it is plastic, you have two choices.

1. Get a new carb body.

2. Drill and tap the carb body and install a metal 90 degree fitting.

I have done number 2.

Re: Johnson 110 leaking gas

It is coming out the throat which leads me to believe it is the needle and seat but, I replaced them both so I don't know. If I take the breather off you can see the gas pouring out when it is priming and the gas comes out the breather when it is on. It's like the needle is getting stuck open but I can't figure out how.

Smarder,

I would suspect a needle/seat too.

Is it possible the area of the carb where the seat screws into is cracked?

I didn't notice a crack but I guess I'll take it apart and look again. Is there any way to adjust the needle and float? I can't think it is pot luck but, I sure didn't see a way.

Thanks.

The float level is adjusted by bending the float arm. The float should be level with the float body, while inverted.

There should be a diagram in the carb kit.

Smarder two things come to me.Is there a nylon gasket under the needle seat? You need one. When you adjust the float, besure not to put presure against the needle or it will leak.
Turn the carb upside down when the float and needle are in place..If it is level with the housing you are golden.
DHP

i would say check the needle seat housing and also insure that you have the right part number. i have had that problem before. pure gas in it open and see what happens (i A Pan Or SOMETHING) also check the other gaskets. if they are bad gas will escape under pressure

Re: Johnson 110 leaking gas

I am experiencing the same problem right now; leaking out of the throat and between the gasket. I took off the carb and the four screws for the bottom bowl were not very tight. Could this be a problem?

Second question: When up the float is upside-down, shouldn't it drop 1 1/8 to 1 1/2? And be level when right-side up?

No, it should drop when it's the right way up. When it's upside down, it should be level with the carb body.

Re: Johnson 110 leaking gas

There wasn't any nylon gaskets in either one when I took them apart. I think the part numbers are correct because the top carb is not having the same problem and I bought two identical carb kits. I'll check out to see if I put the seat in backwards and see if the float needs adjusting. I'll tear it apart again tonight and play with it. Thanks for all the suggestions!!!!
