Hi, I plan on replacing the 2 back to back propeller shaft seals and the big O-ring seal in my lower leg, reading the manual it calls for gasket sealing compound around the 2 seals and triple gaurd grease for the O-ring,my ? is can I use anything else for the steps as I am not near any marine shops,I imagine ordinary grease will be fine for the o-ring but gasket sealing compound? Does it have to be marine grade? Anything else I could use? TIA

Gasket Sealer is very inexpensive for a small can with a brush in it and it can be found at Johnson-Evinrude dealers. The same thing is called Perfect Seal #4 from Mercury Marine dealers and some auto supply stores.

I just did the same thing on my driveshaft bearing housing...replacing the back to back seals. I used Loctite Aviation Gasket Sealant (Liquid) # 30517 . The Sierra/Aquapower # is 18-9070. Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies,I ended up finding some gasket sealer at the local Napa, looked like it should do the trick, now just waiting for the O-ring to come in!
