WHEN I BOUGHT THE BOAT AND MOTOR, THE OIL LEVEL ON THE DIP STICK WAS AT THE "FULL" MARK.<br /><br />THE FIRST TIME I HAD THE OIL AND FILTER CHANGED, IT REGISTERED WELL ABOVE FULL AND STAYED THAT WAY.<br /><br />THE NEXT TIME, I CHANGED THE OIL AND FILTER MYSELF AND PUT EXACTLY THE AMOUNT CALLED FOR IN THE MANUAL. AFTER USING THE BOAT A COUPLE OF TIMES I NOTICED THE OIL LEVEL WELL ABOVE FULL AGAIN.<br /><br />I AM HAVING NO PROBLEMS BUT JUST WONDER WAHT THIS MAY BE AND IF IT COULD BE CAUSING DAMAGE...COULD IT HAVE THE WRONG DIP STICK? (IF SO, THE OIL WOULD HAE HAD TO HAVE BEEN LOW WHEN I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE, AS I STATED ABOVE, IT WAS AT THE FULL LEVEL.)<br /><br />I HAVE VERY LITTLE KNOWLEDGE OF OUTBOARDS AND AM CONCERNED.<br /><br />THANKS,<br /><br />"CHECKLIST"
<br /><br />First: Please do not post all capitals. It is hard to read and is considered shouting.<br /><br />You are getting gas into the oil. This is not uncommon in EFI 4 stroke engines that are not broken in well or are operated for extended times at idle/trolling speeds below the temperature that leans the mixture..<br /><br />Get a Service Manual and test the temp sensor (tells the ECU when to use enriched mixture) and the thermostat. The engine is running too cold and staying in "enriched warm-up" mode too long.<br /><br />Run the engine hard for several hours to more completely seat the piston rings at full operating temps.<br /><br />Hope this helps.
