Hi
I've got a 1986 Johnson 9.9 that has been fitted with remotes. I want to use it as an auxillary engine on my fishing boat and therefore want to convert it back to tiller control.

I found a used tiller handle and the rod which goes through the engine cowling, with the cogs on, but I can't see how it will fit.

I have an older, (1977), 9.9 with tiller control, but the bracket where the handle fits, and the cowling, looks different to my 1986 engine. on the 1977, there is a hole in the bracket and cowling for the rod to pass through, but on the 1986, there isn't a hole in the bracket, and no hole in the cowling. There is a rubber plug which looked as if it might have to be removed to fit the tiller control, but it seems as if it is in the wrong place.

None of my manuals show tiller control, so any advice here would be very, very useful. Is this motor built for remotes only? Or is there a kit or something that I will have to buy?

Thanks in advance
Steve
