Close to buying a 94 Sunbird 170 Bowrider. Private seller asking $4000. With trailer, 90 HP Outboard (4 cyl), he says low hours. It seems to be in good shape; needs cleaning. I have never owned a boat, so I have some questions:

1. Is this a decent deal?
2. My TV is a 2000 Durango SLT. 4.7L, V8. GVWR is 6400lb, GCVWR is 9200lbs. Am I OK ? (I cannot find the GVWR of this boat; hopefully someone knows)
3. Please give me things I should check out before I hand over $$$.

That's all I can think of now. I'm sure I will have more questions once I hit the "Add New Topic" button...

Thanks...

Answer to 2 is should be no problem with that boat.
You should ask for an on lake test of the boat.
Need cleaning could mean many things least of which is it was not taken care of.

Answer to 1 is fould in the kelly bluebook for boats but I am not sure where it is but its easy to use when you find it.

Hey Eddie, did a quik nada check on your boat. the dry weight is just under 2000lbs.with trailer fuel , gear etc you are well within your towable weight( I have a simular durango, and tow a boat that weighs more than twice that). As far as the value... acording to nada the price with trailer is between 3200$ and 3900$. 4000$ is in the ball park as long as everything on the boat and trailer is in good to very good condition. But a pretty exterior can hide some serious problems.Good thing is you are buying an outboard and problems should be easy to see. Check the hull for for spider web cracks bring a flashlight and check for standing water, soft wood, and water stains under deck where ever you can fit your head. if you see any of this walk away or offer him less.As far as the motor....I haven't had an outboard for 15 years, post the year and make in the outboard section, someone there can help you better than me.Make sure you take it for a test run!!!!! supposed to a nice weekend, I,m helping a freind get his bass boat in the water this weekend, maybe I'll run into you on lake st claire.

Good luck
Jim
