Hi guys, I just bought a Dewalt dw849 buffer/polisher to work on my boat. Tired of paying $400 for a bad detail job figured I'd try it myself. However, now that I'm looking for buffing pads, spurs, compounds, etc., I'm having problems figuring out what to buy and where to buy it.

I figure I need the following:

- Buffing Compound (3M Super Duty or Yacht Brite Buff Magic??)
- Wax or Polisher (3M Ultra Marine Wax or Yacht Brite Pro Polish??)
- Buffing Pads (3m PN 05700 for buffing, 3m 05705 for polishing)
- Buffing Pad adaptor (3m PN 05710)
- Spur to clean pad

The reason I'm debating the use of the Yacht Brite products is because of the latest ShipShape TV show I saw where they visited SeaRay and it appears Searay uses this stuff exclusively. Have any of you guys used this stuff?

Now, where do you guys buy this stuff, is there a good place online? My local West Marine has none of these products, except for the 3m compounds and waxes.

Thanks guys!

-Gerry

Have you tried an automotive parts store that sells paint and body repair supplies? OR

Go to the biggest car dealer in town and talk with the Reconditioning Guy and ask who the supplier is.

Bob

I have seen several recommendations here that the best results are obtained by choosing a product "system." Whichever manufacturer you choose stay with that brand.

I'd go with the 3M products and Pads... The directions on the products will tell you which pads to use with which products, and so-on... The "system"..

Try an auto paint supplier...(that's where i get mine)

Never heard of "Yacht Brite"..

Yes, the boat mfg'r will use a product like you asked about for buffing a slight blemish on a pristine finish. If your boat needs buffing to restore its shine...there is a better product for <$15. email me, and I will share this knowledge, and a link to a web site.
