Cant get it up!

I have a 25hp 2003 short shaft Johnson.<br />My 15ft tracker grizzly is made for a long shaft motor. Because of this the prop of my short shaft is barely in the water. I cant get the boat up on plain no matter what I do. I have heard that there is and extention kit available. Perhaps a jack plate will get the motor down deeper in the water. Any idea? Thanks

sorry I just could not resist.<br /> best way is to buy the extension kit. they usually run less than 300 dollars and contain all parts except sometimes the power head gasket. its an easy set up but requires a lot of dissasembly and reassmbly but none that is very technical.<br />good luck and keep posting

A used jack plate will be your cheapest option. that is what i done and it worked out perfect. it cost me 150.00 on ebay for i rite hite jack plate.

I would hate to notch the transom since it is in pristine condition. I am wondering if using a jack plate will interfere with the steering since its a tiller. The extention kit sounds like a good winter project! Thanks for the replies; its nice to find and active board!

an extension isn't hard to build out of angle iron, and they work out really nice, especially when you can get the motor behind the higher transom and block out the noise. On two identical 16 foot raised deck cruisers, mine (with extension)was the better performer and more comfortable as well. I'm a believer.

I just spotted an extension kit for 20,25 & 30 HP Johnson & Evinrude on e-bay. Item number 4500606791 starting bid is $85 buy it now for $150. Hope this helps you.
