guys <br />I have a 1978 85hp Johnson that won"t start changed the power packs and it started hitting on 2-3 coils one side only, but would not kill with the key switch. checked the ohms on the charge coil and got 278 & 283 ohms. my book says it needs at least 435-655 ohms . Is this correct in a Johnson Manual. Also switched meter to a/c volts and got only 77 & 82 cranking volts from sensor coils. my book says it need 170 -180 Is this correct. I have have another stator I took of another motor that ohms out over 500. but would just like to be sure of spec, before replacing. Thanks for your Help

Re: charge coil specs

The charge coils should read 280 +.0r - 50 ohms. The sensor should read 40 + or - 10 ohms. Charge coil, 160 volts, or higher, sensor coil .3 volts, or higher. Pulse pack output, 170 volts, or higher. These readings apply to a peak reading volt meter. Don't forget the short to ground test.
