First time poster, great site!

I have an Evinrude 25 that has had the serial number/model plate removed, desperatley need a repair manual. Is there another way to identify this outboard.

The top is white with a 25 on the side and the words Twenty Five in a couple of spots. The bottom of the engine is blue sparkle and the mounting bracket is white.

A few of the internal numbers on parts are:

326171 - Carb
CD2 582452 OA 6W 13 - Control module?
22801 - Engine cover

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Can't identify Model or SN

Just found on another site the spark plug matrix. My engine has the J4C so it's between 1952 and 1976 for my horsepower. Judging from the color scheme I saw on the front of a 1977 manual I think I'm in the seventies...still looking though.

Check on the engine block for a welsh plug that looks like a freeze plug and see if you can find some numbers engraved on it to post.

Edit: Oh,and welcome to iboats.

ob - I could only find one plug on the block, near the rear, and it had no number on it. The only "obvious" (although I looked all over) on block parts were:
326713
325744-2

Incidently the top of the hood is sparkle blue also and the pinstripping scheme is red, white, and blue.

I didn't mention in the earlier post that it has electric start.

The 1976 Evinrude snowmobile has the same color scheme.

No pro here, but I'll get the ball rolling.

Is the exhaust thru-hub or not? If not, there'll be a 'tail' just behind the propeller, and the propeller will come to a 'cone' at the end, like this one: Click here to see. If it's thru-hub, then the propeller will be hollow and look something like this (click here).

Definately the cone, although the cone does have a "cotter" (spelling) pin through it.

Wish I could help further on the specific year of your engine but without model number its just ballpark.Maybe some of the other pros can help narrow it down from the info you listed.

Re: Can't identify Model or SN

Ok, that dials us in to '69 - '77 (unless it turns out it's a 'commercial' engine). I believe that the CD2 ignition power packs came out in '77 on the little engines too. So in all likelihood, your 25hp is a 1977 model. Maybe someone else will be able to confirm this for you.

It seems to me that the nameplates fell off of a lot of '70s Johnsons and Evinrudes...

Hope this helps!

Here's a 1977 35 horse. Color scheme for 25 is the same.

The CD2 control i belive is only on the pointless (breaker points that is) ignition system. In that case we are in the late 70's. Does it have a big black airbox in front of the carb? In that case I think it's 78 or later.
The 25 hp still didn't have trough propeller exhaust in 1980 when mine was built.

No airbox, butterfly choke is exposed. I've taken some photos just can't seem to fiqre out how to post. The color scheme and look are super similar to the 35 BoatBuoy has posted. Sparkle blue color is the same, choke lever is the same, the blue "handle" that the linkage cable goes to in the left of the picture is black on mine and where it looks like his remote start cable goesw is my "stop" button. My "start" button is on the side, just around the corner from the choke lever.

Did some detective work for ya,
I agree it's probably a 77, first year with the CD2 pack on it and last with the older block.
To make sure you could remove the propeller and see if it's a sheer pin drive or if it's splines that holds it in place. 1977 was the first year with CD2 and the last year with pin drive.

Re: Can't identify Model or SN

Awesome, Thanks PikeFisher! I bought a manual that covers pretty much the entire line from 68 - 83 or something crazy around those lines but I'd like to pin down the year and get a more detailed manual. I'll pull the propeller!

Thanks again.
