I have a set of carbs that are used up. Sucking air, in all the wrong places. I'm looking for a used replacement set that are set up for electric primer choke. Any ideas?

How did you determine the carbs were bad?

I have been looking on ebay, but have not had any luck. What is involved in the process of modifing another type of carb to a primer system and what type of carb should I be looking for to make this modification (year,hp,bore size, etc.)

The mechanic checking out the motor due to some rough idle problems, pointed out to me that the throttle shaft on both carbs was noticably loose and and can be moved up and down as well as side to side. Also shows some marking inside from the butterflies.

When the motor is running and you move the shafts up and down, does the idle change?

Not that noticably, but when you try to cover the area where the shaft enters the carb, the motor seems to smooth out.

I have a 79 140 and it will not idle without a backfire thru the exhaust. I'm wondering if I might have a similar problem. I have some movement in the shafts but It doesn't seem to be excessive. I was told that maybe one could plug one of the holes in the butterfly to account for additional air in the mixture but I'm not ready to try that yet. If I run my motor with choke 3/4 closed it does not backfire at low speed with the timing about where it should be. It runs fine at high speed with no choke. I have a 73 135 that I thought about trying those carbs<br /> on the 140 if they will fit. The 135 runs great so maybe that would help me determine if carbs are my problem. also thought about trying an oring inside the roll pin and washer on the shaft to see if that would help or maybe just installing a little larger slow speed jet but that might make it idle too fast for sure..

Re: Carbs for 1984 Evinrude Outboard 140 hp

I checked the carbs and found something interesting. On a metal tag on the carbs were the following numbers, top carb "393771" and below it on the tag was 115 AB, and on the bottom carbs tag was "393772" and below it was 115 ?? (could not make out). Could these be 115 hp carbs? If so, how are they effecting the performance of the engine? The model number of the motor shows it to be a 140 hp. (I purchased it used)
