Any help appreciated. Trying to indentify correct year of Johnson 25hp motor.<br />Model # J25TELCSA<br />Serial #B5266229

I think this is a 1980 #J25TELCS

Thanks for the response. Curious why you say junk it though. Motor given to me by friend. Although last started 2 yr's ago. My attemp to start failed. Would only get it to run while spraying starting fluid into throat of carb. Was planning to order gasket (overhaul kit) for carbs.

don't use starting fluid from what I've read on other post that could harm your motor. they say to use a gas oil mix in a spray bottle. Good Luck

Those eighties twins were strong reliable motors, same block used up to todays outboards, close to same ignition too. Clean and rebuild the carb, Clean all electrical connectors, including ground connections. Change water pump impeller and gear oil, observing if the old is milky from water intrusion. Change spark plugs to new Champion QL77JC4. All chances are you got a good motor. ( And a good friend )
