Hello,

I am considering ripping the VRO out and replacing with Holley blue electric pump and starting to premix.

Anyone with experiance of doing this? Also what psi should it be set to on a Evinrude 300 V8?

Thanks!

The VRO has obviously been working fine up until now. Why go back to stone axes and clubs? You aren't buying into this "premix is better than injecting" crap, are you?

The issue has come up countless times. Those that post in favor of premixing seem invariably to be consumers. I find that it's exremely rare for a marine professional to advise that route. So who has the more expertise? Some guy that heard from somebody that read an article somewhere that premixing is the only way to go or it's doom for certain? Or the guys that see hundreds if not thousands of motors each year with few to none with these so-called injection problems. GHOSTS! PHANTOMS! 99% of what you hear about injection failures is pure BS!

Yep....what Willy said.

True, the original VRO's had a lot of problems but the new ones have a great track record. If I had to replace mine, I would replace it with a newest one available.

And, unless the electric pump is made specifically for outboard use with all the safety features such as an auto shut off if the engine quits, I would highly recommend AGAINST installing an electric pump on an outboard.

You have to use a Coast Guard approved electric fuel pump on a boat, and they are not cheap.

IF you want to premix, just cap off the oil lines and use only the fuel pump portion of the VRO's to deliver the juice to your carbs. Since a V8 uses 2 "VRO" pumps, you have safety there should one ever fail. You can also replace the fuel pump diaphragms with a kit, if they ever need service.

With a single electric fuel pump, you do not have any backup, and it also depends on wiring, switches, and battery power.
