How low does oil collect in Johnsuki 115?

I gave my motor a little side to side shake while it was on the trailer and heard a quantity of liquid slosh around right above the anit-cav plate. is this normal? I had already drained the river water from the prop/foot after towing up the ramp so I can only assume this is engine oil? Does the oil drain down this low? Or could it be water trapped somehwere that is slow to drain? it is enough to be of concern here due to the freezing temps.

This sloshing noise definately came from down lower, not up in where I picture the engine block being up higher.

I shook my 115 (same as your's) and I don't hear any sloshing, other than fuel in the tank. There won't be any oil below the drain/fill hole in the lower unit. After my motor drains, and I tilt it up, more water will still drain when I lower it again.

Check the engine oil. If its full the fluid you are hearing can't be engine oil. Besides, you wouldn't likely hear it slosh regardless where it was in the engine. If the engine oil is low, its possible there is a leak and its draining into the leg but I doubt it. You would have had an oil pressure warning if you lost enough oil to hear it slosh. I doubt its water either as outboards are self draining and even if a little water was trapped, you wouldn't hear it slosh. My guess is its bilge water or fuel (in the tank)

There are cavities in the midsection that can trap water. They have drain holes at the bottom that can get plugges up and act just like a stopper. Look for the drain holes and see if they are clear & unplug if needed. This happens more to salt water motors than fresh.

I just had to do this on a 1975 9.9. The crud build up inside this cavity was like soft concrete & filled about 2" of the cavity. I ended up drilling the crud out and enlarging the drain hole to 1/4"

This noise is definately coming from the leg. I had already drained whatever would run out naturally. Sounds like this is abnormal so I will check it out more closely. I JUST had the 100 hour service done too.
