140hp & 225hp..Same Carb Body?

Hi all,

Due to the emulsion tubes in my 1986 140hp Evinrude carbs starting to disintigrate, I need to replace the carb bodies or the entire set of carbs/throttle body (the tubes themselves seem to be next to impossible to get on their own).

I've located some carb bodies off a 225hp evinrude (unsure of year) and am wondering if they are the same as the carb bodies of my 140hp. Unfortunately my motor is under a couple feet of snow at the moment, so pulling one off the motor isn't an easy task.

I checked some online part sites and determined that the same carb kit seems to be used on both motors....can one carb kit fit two different carb bodies or does the fact that they are using the same kit mean they are the identical carb body?

Appreciate any help that can be offered.

Cheers,

Brew

There are several (many) carb assemblies that are different. You can indeed use the top two carb assembly (carb body and throttle body) from the 225 on your V4. The carb is matched to the throttle body so use them as a set. Dont try to put a 225 carb body on a 140 throttle body.

Jeff at Flagship can probably get you a set of tubes. He's headed to the Miami show now but call him next week after Tuesday (800-282-2840).

Dhadley....Sorry I didn't post back last night....went off line after responding to you.

I'm running my 140 on a 17 foot Invader bow rider. Are you thinking that your race boat carbs might work for me? Top end speed isn't really a big deal for me, so I wouldn't want to "waste" the carbs if there was something special about them that made them "race boat" carbs. Let me know.

Okam.....will be a while before I'm able to do anything with my setup as it is under a few feet of snow and all the water around here is frozen solid. Will definitely post back with results on what ever I end up doing once the snow stops flying.

Cheers,

Brew

Yeah, they would work but probably not the best idea. They have pretty big throats. They're off of a 1999 250. They'd work much better on something like a Hydrostream or Allison.

Oh well..........

Dhadley....do you have another phone number for Jeff at Flagship? I doubt the toll free "800" number will work from Canada.

I looked for a website and found "Flagship Marine Engine Company" in Punta Gorda. I assume they are who you were talking about, but their website doesn't have a phone number listed.

Thanks.

Fishslayer....I'm no expert, but I don't think you'll have the emulsion tube problems that Okam and I are experiencing. Our late 80's loopers have plastic carbs. The gasoline additives unfortunately eat away at the plastic over time and in particular turn the emulsion tubes into mush. I believe your crossflow carbs are made of metal, so nothing to worry about. Keep an eye on ebay for your carbs.

No idea how long crossflows have been around....other than to say a long time....before loopers anyway.

Good luck.

Brew

I happen to have two carbs that came off my 140 if you are looking for a set. They are in good shape and the engine was running when they came off. Email me if you are interested.................piniongear

Piniongear....you didn't leave me your email and your profile doesn't list it.

If the carbs are off the 1978 140 you posted about a while ago, unfortunately they won't work for me as my motor is a "looper" and the '78 is a crossflow. Fishslayer might be interested though.

Cheers,

Brew

Hi Fishslayer. I 'think' I have updated my profile now to show my email address. If not, it is:
wb_perry@yahoo.com
Give me a shout regarding those carbs.

Re: 140hp & 225hp..Same Carb Body?

Rodbolt...I'd be interested in the'89 140hp carbs if the emulsion tubes are in good shape and the throttle bodies are still there. I assume the '89 140 was a looper. Correct?

Give me a shout at dsample@telus.net when you have a minute.

Thanks,

Brew

The 800 number for them should work from Canada but the other number is 941-639-3738. He'll be back in the office Tuesday.
