Snow at the Dock ?

Well this is the first time I have encounted this problem. I launched my boat last weekend since the weather was in the high 70's. This weekend is cold with 4 to 7" expected overnight tonight.

The temps will be in the higher 20's so this snow is going to be very wet and heavy. Forcasters also so that there will be high winds. I spent last night on the boat. Thinking I should tonight as well to keep the snow accumulation off the boat. Just affraid that with my height and winds plus extra weight from the snow could cause a possibility of capsizing. Water lever has already came up enough that the ramps are shut down.

Like I said this is the first time I have ever had to deal with this situation. Any suggestions on what I should do or not do? Thanks.

The high winds should keep any accumulation on the boat to a minimum.I dont think you should spend the night on the boat.Tie a small plastic tarp down and it will help the snow slide off in the wind.Charlie

Make Sure the boat Insurance is Paid Up,+ Sleep in Your Own Warm Bed..??......

Seriously,.... If it were Me,.. I'd be Sure of the Dock Lines,+ Bilgepump/Batteries.........
And Go Home......

Being in open water, I Can't see a Freeze Issue,... Although I'd probably Drain the Block,+ Manifolds................

Good Luck.....

We have bad weather here also but no snow. I understand your concern of capsizing. Wear a PFD if you are out knocking off snow and good luck.

Re: Snow at the Dock ?

Thanks all. I have shore power this year and it is great, I even have back up if it goes out. Last night the low was 36 and the cabin temp was 78. My slip is only about 30' from shore plus this is on a very small lake. So it won't be like I'm on open water.

I'm thinking with the cabin heat on that will keep the snow from sticking to the deck on the bridge and bow.

It was nice here Friday morning, then the front started pushing thru. Flurries and gusty wind and dropping temps.

Today, Saturday, 24* this morning. Now, winds to 27 mph and 35*.

Tonight, low of 22*.

Sorry SS, but its headed your way.

Oh, this is my fault, because I put the batteries in the boat friday morning.

Re: Snow at the Dock ?

I can't believe this, we have already had a record snowfall season. :( Mowed my yard last weekend and now it needs it again. Just won't be able to tomorrow if its covered with snow. I just hope it will be more rain than snow.

My SIL and I just finished recovering my winter bridge cover. It is a frame that I made out of conduit that fits snug over the bridge. Going to haul it down and put it on. That way the snow should slide off into the water. The back deck should be okay. With the water temp being 39*, I don't think I have to worry about the engine. Temps are surpose to only get down to 28 or thereabouts.

I won't call it your fault roscoe, I call it OHIO weather, If you don't like it, just wait because tomorrow it will be different. I have seen snow flakes here in June before. I hope it won't happen this year.

Thanks again. If I don't post anymore today, I'll update you tomorrow.

Do they make snow chains for props? :p :D

COLUMBUS, OH: ...FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT LATE TONIGHT TO SUNDAY MORNING...

I'm gunna take Bondo's advice and go pull the drain plugs. Wasn't it just 80 degrees a couple days ago?

This is what I get for starting the motor last week... I haven't even taken it to the lake yet!

Re: Snow at the Dock ?

Well I am so happy its raining here. Really we need the rain to fill up the river to fill up the lake thats down due to drought.

Guys as much as I hate rain pray for any moisture for me.

As for snow that happens here but only in the mountains. If we get two inches they close the scools! Happens on average 1 time a year.

There is a picture here in another thread we had that 70 degree day. I epoxied the floor for the last coat and then next day we actually had the snow that closed the school!!! March 14th I think.
