Hi all, I was wondering if there is anyone out there in boatland who could help me out with a clasic starflite 75, 1960. I bought a boat and motor this last summer for a steal, I need help in installing the generator on it, this motor didnt come with it from the factory even though all the bracketry was there, ,,,I installed a used generator with all the pulleys and belts, but I need to know or be shown on a diagram how to hook it up and what additional stuff I need to do it. Thank you

Hello.
You will need a regulator.the wiring harness on your engine should have the wires that go to the plug on the side of the engine. You will also need an amp meter.Seloc manuals have a special section on how these generators hook into your system.

will my harness have the connections on it even if it had no gen from the factory?
If not I am not too concerned if I have to run separate lines to charge the battery, I'm just a plumber with no electrical know how (obviously) thanks

Cloudboy,

Although I have no experience with your engine, I drew up a diagram for a 28hp that used the same generator.
28hp Schematic (PDF) click here.

As you can see, you'll need a regulator to complete the setup. A 1960 Ford Falcon regulator will do nicely, and is easily had. Have a look at this discussion:
Iboats thread, click here.

Hope some of this helps!
EDIT: fixed pdf.

cloudboy79 I think you'll find wires not connected, but factory insulated near the carbs. These connect to your generator, which does produce DC voltage.

On the other end of your engine harness (near the battery connections) should be more unattached wires or a connector plug. This is what connects to a junction box in the boat, that contains the regulator, and some times the starter solenoid.

DHP
