i have a evinrude 70 hp that wont turn over
i have replaced starter and jumped starter pack stright to gnd and starter contact i can pull the crank rope abuot 3/4 turn then it tightens up
is this a timing problem
I think you should remove the head and see whats goin on that much water in a piston is never a good thing check the head make sure its not warped or cracked
I have found out if you back up with low throdle in the wind the exsost will not keep water from tralving up to the piston chamber this is a fairly common thing accordnly to boat tecs
Good Grief.
The "bottom plug was full of water". Bottom cylinder was full of water? A motor would hydrolock long before the cylinder got full of water if the water was getting in while it was running. Bottom plug was wet with water, like bad fuel or cylinder head? Just what was full of water?
If you tip an outboard that's got water in the leg too far horizontal you can get water into the cylinders.
i think if you do a compresion test you will have 0 psi.
probbebly your cylinder sleeve is rusted threu and water got in there.
hophely i'm wrong it could be a blown headgasket if your lucky. but that much water doesnt sound good.

pull the head like jim mattews said and youl know whats going on.

i would spray that motor full with wd40 to save your bearings if you had that much water in there.
be very careful it will not rust on you.

reelduch
after pulling the plug and starting the motor and letting it run with the botton piston out for about 3 min installed new plug boat runs fine
no more problems thanks for the help
danno
