175HP - Johnson Excessive Smoking +

I have a 2003 Johnson that smokes quite a bit at idle. Quite a bit more than anyone else in our bass club with simular engines. When warm it also runs rough when idling. Sometimes it is hard to start when i have been fishing for awhile. The engine also wants to kill when I trailer it. The spark plugs are dark and oily, when I remove them.<br /><br />Hole shot and top end is fine.<br /><br />Any ideas ???

hello<br /> may be time for some carb work and testing of the oiling system as well as testing the recirc valves.

You might be sucking a little air anywhere in the fuel system before the fuel pump (VRO) which is throwing off your fuel/oil ratio. That would result in poor idling and fouled plugs.
