older evinrude motor looking for year

I have a 9.5hp evinrude.Lucked our motor runs great.I am looking for year on motor there is not model or serial# tag on motor but freeze plug # are 9122-r j06284.Any help would be great ,also has 8.2x9 prop want to use another prop if that prop is wrong prop.

That engine would have come with an 8.125x8 prop originally, but if you have a light rig the 9" prop may be better. Without a tachometer for a WOT RPM reading you'll really never know for sure.

thanks for the help.The motor is on a 14ft jon boat i am not getting wot,that was the reason for prop change.It's hard to imagine the motor that old runs as good at is does.With the year model it will help for parts and tune ups.I am planning to repaint motor to original color,and get new shop manual.

Don't be so surprised that an older motor can run well. I have a 69' rude that runs perfect. Just did a little tweaking with the help of the experts here and could not be happier with that old engine. You can get a factory manual at marineengine.com.
