Hi guys,

Today, me and my buddy tried to drop the lower unit on this engine but we got stuck because of the shift linkage. We followed the manual but I didn't tell us anything. We pulled the release clip on the shift bar at the bottom of the carb, but it did nothing.

I searched this site and came up with something we didn't know about. A shift release screw? What is that? Do I need to drop the lower cowling to release the shifter... just to lower the lower unit?

Please help us. We have the impeller kit and do not want to have to call the motor guy.

Tom

No release screw on your motor. You need to attach at least one bolt back in the bottom to hold the L/U up. You already pulled the clip out, now push the shift linkage sideways toward to middle of the motor. That should release the shift rod.

hello
on the 90* looper motors I dont think they went to a sliding dissconnect. look from the port side at the shift connector block. if you see a 3/8ths headed hex with a screwdriver slot laying horizontal that will be the shift dissconnect. unless the looper went to the pin and slide method but I cant remember. I built a 94 120 last year but cant remember now. I dont think they did

My 94 has the pin and slide, 92 may be different.
