Got that part but you say it ran fine before. Before what?

Did it run good one day and then the next day it didnt? Did it start running bad in the middle of a trip? Was it OK when it went in storage and now it wont run good?

Looking for some clues.

Betcha it was before he "rebuilt carbs", DHadley.

Fixin what aint broke causes more trouble than normal use in my experience.

dv8er, what was it the wrench told you was the same?

After you rebuilt the carbs did you do a link 'n' synch by the book?

Re: 1975 70hp johnson issues

ok what happened was the motor one trip would not "get up and go" so it had done this before it was the carbs. the first thing i did was change the plugs. then i asked a local mech if he thought it was the carbs the guy that actually did the rebuilt on the carbs the first time. it was only about 6 months since the rebuilt so he thought they should be fine. left it at that. it wasnt fine so i thought there could be crap in the fuel filter screen took that off there wasnt so i took the fuel pump a part found out later thay are a sealed unit and should "not be rebuilt" so bought a new pump for the sake of arguing with the old one. still no go. next i bought a repair manual got tthe rebuilt kits for the carbs and started that. everything went good put it back together and it was a little bit better which kind of told me it is the carbs.then i bought new tanks and lines no better.. i thought i might have not set the linkage or synched them proper so that is when i took it to a mech and he told me they were all good the timing was on and the compression was bang on in all 3 cylinders. the thing he thought was to change the prop but i have had this prop since i got the boat and it ran fine before all this. should i take the carbs of again and take them to mech to blow air through them??? thanks for any info

Ah, good catch JB.

Did you soak the carbs in cleaner or just put kits in them? If they didnt get a bath, they'll probably need one.
