I have a great running engine and took it out yesterday
(great compression and rebuilt carbs). I was going along well and the engine started bogging and losing power and then would pick up and bogg again. I hit the primer and the motor took off fine so it's in the carbs. I tried adjusting the mixture screws and blowing them out with carb clean thinking they were blocked. Long story short and a few cuss words, I got it in my garage and tore into it. I found the air line going to the top of the top carb was severed at the nipple on the carb. I couldn't see it unless I had the other line off, but it was definitely severed letting air in. Would essentially no hose on this air intake cause me to bog but the engine keep running?? I pulled the plugs and the bottom one was a nice carmel color and a touch of oil/gas on it. The top one was carmel but dry. Would the air intake cause the top cylinder to burn clean like that? What would the engine act like if I had a severed air line? Finally, the engine will start and idle fine. Just when you give it half to full throttle it starts the bogging.

I'm a little lost here. Airline to the top of the carb??? I think it may be your primer line and yes if its cut there would be air sucking into the intake creating a lean condition. Fix the line and give her a try.

I wish I could describe it better. There is a fuel line to the bottom of the carbs, then a line going from the bottom carb to the top, and another noticeably SMALLER line like maybe 1/4 inch or 1/3 inch going to the top of the carbs. Maybe it's a pulse line? Not sure if boat motors have one but my jet ski did.

So sucking in air would create a lean condition. Would it result in the engine still running and starting fine, but when given throttle it boggs?

Bill, where does the other end of the hose go??
Also keep to one thread and as the info and suggestions pile up I'm sure someone will solve your problem. When you start new threads on the same subject info gets lost.

Double post....refer to "air leak at carb".
