--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I bought the impeller for my 55hp I asked the guy about the sealer for the lower unit and he said not to worry about it. When I had the foot off I could see that it wasn't used last time. Do I need to pull it off and seal it? You can see it blow ex gas out the joint when reving the motor at the lake. Is there supposed to be ex gas in that area or did I displace the upper seal on the exhaust extension ? there were signs of ex crud on top of the impeller hsg and the shift housing when I had it apart.

Thanks

Are you talking about where the lower unit separates from the mid section when you pull it down???? If so, no, you don't need sealant.
On the front of that piece there is a notch to let water drain anyway.

Yes, the joint between the lower unit and the mid section. The factory manual says use type M sealant.

Then follow the manual. That's the best info you can get, and it's right in your hands. :)
