1991 225hp v6 .

i just bought boat last week and dont know anything about prior owner.

i took all carbs off and am rebuilding them, but this is wher i may have goofed.

i noticed that on the front of each of the 6 carbs, there are 2 air jets, one for idle, and one for off idle.

not all the carbs have the same jets. some have a 27 idle jet and a 48 of idle, while a nother may have a 29 idle and a 55 off idle...

my manual is not very specific about this in regards to jet size

is it SUPPOSED to be this way, meaning each carb has its own place on its own respectfull cylinder? or has somebody swapped out the air jets with varying numberd ones.

im not gonna run the motor untill i find out whats up with this, i dont wanna put the carbs in the wrong place.

thanks in advance to anybody and everybody who responds to my post. thanks a bunch, youre all life savers :)

mike

Are you sure about the year and horsepower Mike? Model number?

yes. the local dealer ran the powerhead number from the plug on the powerhead.

no serial or model number plates. the powerhead is on a sea drive unit. i know its not the origonal powerhead for the seadrive, as the powerhead is a different color than the rest.

Somebody has, most likely, been fooling with the jetting. The idle jets dont worry us much but the mid range jets do. You may have to rejet it too once you get it running but if it were mine I'd put the mid range jets at 48. The worst that will happen is that it'll be too rich and blubber a bit. Better than running lean with some at 55.

Are the high speed jets all alike?

Re: 1991 225hp v6 "air jet" question

Mike.... The reason I asked about the year /hp being exact is that my 1991 parts book lists the jets as follows:

Intermediate Air Bleed (top front jet) - 55 (.055) #326928

Idle Air Bleed (bottom front jet) - 33 (.033) #320015

High Speed (Fuel) - 62D (.062) #331433

The above do not correspond with any of what you mention, and if my book has been updated since, I'm not aware of it as I retired right about then.

As it stands, that leads me to think that the powerhead you have (or the carburetors) are of some other vintage.

Dhadley..... Was there an update?
