1991 johnson 225 v6.

replaced fuel lines, rebuilt carbs,new head gaskets, re-glued flywheel magnets, new plugs, new thermostats.

compression is 130 in all 6 . strong hot spark in all 6.

at boat ramp in water: motor starts right up and spits and coughs and shakes and after it finishes quick start mode, it dies instantly. when it coughs and sputters, white smoke "spits" outa the exhaust.

i removed the reeds and held them up to a light and they all looked good, no outa shape or bent reeds. but i DID notice the backside(inner)had some white burn marks, as though the engine has been backfiring before, and maybe burnt the reeds.

it seems as if the motor is misfiring VERY BADLY , almost like the timing is WAY WAY OFF.

motor did this when i bought it 4 weeks ago, and after new fuel and new parts and service, it still does this.

any ideas where i should start to look for possible prob?

:::UPDATE:::

my manual stated that the problem could be either the coils were hooked up wrong, flywheel has broken the key, or the powerpack needed replaced. flywheel is good, coils are correct, so i replaced powerpack( 160 dollars) and still same thing!
