Re: 1960 75hp super sea horse
I'd try to start it first, just so you know what you're dealing with. Use fresh, clean gas, mixed 32/1 with 2stroke oil. I'd take a look at the lower unit grease first, if you intend to run it any length of time. Make sure you pull the right screw - I think that design has a screw down there that's actually the pivot for the shift yoke, if you pull that one out, you have to pull the lower unit apart to fix it.

The lower unit has to be in the water when you run it, even for a few seconds, or you'll burn out the water pump. The lower has to be well down into the water, not just to the lower unit - midsection junction.

Assuming it starts, first you'll want to check that it's pumping water, internally. Ideally, you want to put a new impeller in it, and if not, you want to watch the temp like a hawk until you do put an impeller in it. That motor should have an overheat light on the dash, check that it's working - ask us how if your manual doesn't say. When warmed up, the block should be good and warm, but not hot - we say you can rest your fingers on it for 2-3 seconds without getting burned.

Shift it back & forth a few times, and let it fast idle in gear for a while. If the grease looked OK when you checked it earlier, it's OK to take a run around the lake for a bit, see if she heats up or runs badly under power. In either case, after you pull the boat out, recheck the lower unit lube & see if it got milky from water intrusion.

Have fun!
