This motor is new to me, as is the boat, a 17 foot CC Mako, and in the yard when we tested it, it seemed to run fine, but on the lake today, it would only get up to 2300 rpm. The fuel bulb was replaced, and still will not pump up good and solid. The boat has sat for some time and my neighbor said he thought the carburetors might be all varnished up. Anyone have any ideas?

2 carbs...get'em cleaned by a pro before you have to spend 2500 bux on a new powerhead.check ignition too

Yep, could be the carbs, could also be a bunch of other things. Make sure the throttle linkage is advancing all the way and make sure the timing linkage is advancing with the throttle linkage. A compression and spark test may be in order. If your bulb will not pump up tight then you have a stuck float/floats, leaky hose connection, bad fuel pump.....

Hi luna....

Pull the cover off the carbs. Pump the primer bulb. If your getting gas flowing out the carbs while pumping the primer bulb, a carb cleaning and overhaul is due.

And since the engine is new to you, get a compression reading on the cylinders. Check the spark on each cylinder. Wouldn't hurt to put a water pump kit in it either.

If your a do-it-yourselfer person, get a service manual. Will pay dividends in the long run. The engine you have is a proven block and a great runner.

The forums here will help you along if you need help.
