1970 evinrude motor........85hp

new gas.....battery all charged up.<br /><br />turns over very fast ..<br /><br />hit once....maybe twice..<br /><br />has been awhile since it was started..<br /><br />what next should i do?...

Make sure your getting a good spark to all the spark plugs and hang on, experts will be with you momentarily

Bill, do what hoss suggested first. Make sure you have spark to all cylinders.<br /><br />Check that the choke plates are closing when the the key is depressed for choke.<br /><br />If spark is present and the choke plates work, take a spray bottle of premix gas and give each carb a shot. Try and crank. If she tries to fire, you probably got a fuel flow problem.<br /><br />How long has the engine set? Did it run before layup? Give us a little history.

thanks...<br /><br />not sure about the history of this motor.<br /><br />its on the boat and was told that it ran last year. i was encouraged when it did hit. i was told it had 125 psi on each cyl. i am not talented enough to fix anything about it. i just thought i would try anything anyone suggested. i do plan to get a manual and feel i could trouble shoot it with help.<br /><br />thanks

Ditto OBJ's spraybottle suggestion. Let us know what happens when you try it. DON'T run the motor for more than FIVE seconds without water to the lower unit. Have a fire extinguisher handy.
