Forget the handle....Just remove the screws on the perimater (sp?) of the box. Handle stays with one half.

key switch for '78 70hp Johnson

I need to change out the key switch in my control box, but I can't get the control arm off, it has a allen screw holding it on, I bent a allen wrench trying to loosen it. I guess the oxidation got to it, any suggestions how to get it off.

I tried that but when I tried to pry the box apart it seemed like the control arm was not allowing the box to separate, should the control box be really hard to get apart like that?

According to the manual, the allen screw has to be loosened 3 full turns...block the box on the handle side and tap with a punch right in the center of the allen screw until the handle disengages with the splines, then remove screw and handle, the the rest of the screws and it should come apart...<br />Mod1 doesn't read the manual much, so we'll give him a break this time..... :D
