have a seahorse 35 model J35ELCIG ser# E5545954
misses and pops when running sometime appears as it is only running on 1 cylynder but using infrared temp gun it shows both cylnders to be approx. same temp.

I have thouroughly cleaned carb- made new gasket for carb to intake.
plugs good
compression 125lbs both cyl.

Not to sound stupid but it appears to have a cdi box so I assume no points(I have no idea how old this engine is since it came with an old pontoon boat I Bought.

any help would be appreciated thanks

If it sounds like its missing, it probably is. Check spark on both cylinders. Have you removed and checked the plugs? Do the wires look to be in good condition. Do the simple stuff first.

That's a 1981 engine, Tom.

Sounds like stuff in the carbs. are you sure that it is not sneezing? Does it pop back out of the carb? Could be running lean. Rings don't like that.

Try adjusting your idle mixture to the rich side (turn mixture screw counter clockwise 1/8 to 1/4 turn). What fireman is describing is sometimes called a "lean pop" Making the mixture richer should alleviate that.
