My new boat is running good. 16.5' ski boat with 1976 85HP Evinrude Outboard.

I am somewhat worried though as my motor DOES NOT have a tell tale. I am sort of "anal" when it comes to taking care of things and not having a tell tale freaks me out.

I had heard a while ago that I could possibly add a tell tale to my motor with some simple drill and tap procedure. If anyone could elaborate on this procedure, point me in the direction of a web-link, or just explain how to do it - I WOULD MUCH APPRECIATE IT!!!

Thanks...

If you're going to the trouble of adding a tell tale, consider just putting in a water pressure gauge on the dash. Since I put mine in, I don't look at the tell tale anymore. If you go to the teleflex instruments web page, and search through the t/a and troubleshooting menues, you'll find an installation guide for their water pressure gauge, which might give you a good idea what it would take to add one to your engine. At the engine, it will be approximately the same (if not exactly the same) effort as putting in a tell tale. Added to that, you'll have to put the gauge in the dashboard, but that's just a matter of cutting a BIG HONKIN' hole in the dash!

? that link took me to a parts page. Item 22 is an indicator. It looks like a brass 90* barb fitting that I could easily get at the hardware store. Where does that fitting get installed onto the motor? In other words, where do I drill/tap and install that fitting, I am sure that once the fitting is installed, I could just route a length of hose from that fitting out the bottom of the motor?

Are there any instructions as to where to drill or top that piece into???

Thanks for trying to help!

If anyone else actually has the procedure or a link to the procedure I would much appreciate it!!!
