Does anyone know how much it should cost to rewind and reinstall a pull rope starter recoil spring? The motor is a 1982 4.5 hp Johnson Seahorse. Thanks

Not many wrenches would take that on, Slider. It is a nasty, dangerous job and labor alone would be more than a replacement unit.

Your best bet is to buy a Service Manual, the OEM is best, and take it on yourself.

You will need heavy gloves, safety glasses and loads of patience.

You should expect an hour labor to do the job. A first time mechanic will spend possibly a little more time but that's cause he's not done it before. After two or three times, it should take him about 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour or so.. an 1/2 hour if he's quick and everything goes back together (and works) the first attempt! I'd "quote" an hour labor plus parts...
