I now have a mid 1970's 125hp evinrude. I work at a fabricating shop and the guys have volunteered to build an internal roll cage/ support for the transom so it can hold the outboard. What is your guy's take on it. It's only rated for a 70hp, but we basically have unlimited metal working to beef up the transom. What's your guys thoughts? thanks

I doubt that you will get much support from the guys here for putting a 125 on a boat rated for a 70 no matter how you mount it.

You didn't say anything about what the boat is, but nobody is going to say that it's a good idea to almost double the recommended HP on a small boat. I know it's not what you wanted to hear.

It depends on what you want to do. A guy I know packed 400 horses into a 1968 Mustang. Goes like He** in a straight line. Can't steer it, can't stop it. Not street legal, gotta trailer it to the strip. He likes it. <br />Dhadley will have something to say.

You have a weight consideration too. The 125 being a 4 cylinder is probably around 30% heavier than a 3 cylinder 70.<br />But just because you have 55 more horsepower doesn't mean you have to use all of it.

"But just because you have 55 more horsepower doesn't mean you have to use all of it."<br /><br />Right. Just because you have a 32oz. charbroiled T-bone on your plate doesn't mean you have to eat it all, either.<br /><br />Bad idea, Ryan.<br /><br />Good luck. :)
