Check this out: I was told in an earlier thread that there is a lot of appreciation for these motors around here..

EDIT: Sorry. It isn't polite to post links like that on a site that is an engine and powerhead retailer.

Re: For the enthusiasts

My apologies. I just thought the rarity of the motor (a NOS 45 year old motor/classic) would be of interest to those who appreciate such and did not intend to indirectly, or in an "impolite" way, advertise the motor in conflict with the purpose of iboats. I think I moreso violated the letter of the law - but not the spirit of what draws people to the forums and what ultimately provides greater exposure/advertising for iboats.
Sorry..

Re: For the enthusiasts

I'm kind of curious about the vintage motor. JB, would it be OK for it to be talked about and perhaps describe the website without actualy posting the link?

Thanks for your response JB. Hope I didn't come across as defensive. I appreciate your fair and wise moderation of the forums. In response to DHadley's question, let me know if it is within the bounds to tell him about the motor (since sold and out the door) without posting the link.

No problem with referring to a location or business. The problem is with direct links.

There would be no problem if you said, "Look on ebay. Search for ____________."

Good luck. :)

Dhadley,

The motor was a '57-72 NOS Evinrude Lark 40 HP that the seller indicated had sat on a shelf in his parents dealership until 2001. He indicated that it had 2 years of use before he decided to part with it due to lower unit corrosion. The entire top half was new in '01. Someone "stole" it for $302.50.

"Look on ebay. Search for item # 4555029773
(the bidding has ended) and tell me what you think if it happens to be there."

Re: For the enthusiasts

Pretty good deal for someone, I'd guess. On the other hand, buying a powerhead is always a risky proposition.

I think the low price was due to the fact that few folks are going to bother to put a new powerhead on an old 40hp Big Twin, frankly. Either you have a good outboard that's already running fine, or you have a pile of junk.

If it's running fine, why replace the powerhead. If it's not, you can find one that is for not much more than this powerhead.

As the owner of a Big Twin, I wouldn't have bought this...even to update my 35 to a 40.

Man did that bring back some memorys. It never ceases to amaze me how people will buy a new powerhead or block and NOT paint it. Man thats tacky!
