Hello, I just got a boat with an evinrude 40 horse "big twin" motor on it. I looked for a serial # on the motor but couldnt find one, The only number I found was on the inside of the motor cover that number was 204839. I need to know the oil mixture ratio for this motor and the year of the motor if possible. The motor is mounted on a 1958 feathercraft.
thanks

Re: Evinrude big twin oil mix ratio

Check between the two transom clamps for the name plate. It should be up above them on the tilt/swivel bracket.

Failing that, check near the back of the engine block for a silver convex disc with numbers stamped into it.

The answer depends on the precise year, and if we can get the model number it's the easiest way to determine year. The number on the inside of the cover sounds like a casting number. If you look closely, the engine is covered in them.

No trouble!

40853 is a 1968 model. That makes it 50:1 87 octane gas to TC-W3 rated outboard oil. That's 1 pint to 6 gallons of gas.

Good luck!
